2013 ORO, Cabernet Sauvignon, Boxed 3-Pack
Warm blackberries, boysenberries, and black cherries define the aromas of this very open, intensely aromatic Cabernet, surrounded by notes of cinnamon, clove, and toasty French oak. Slightly riper, darker, more purple in tone than most offerings in this outstanding year, ORO offers aromas that suggest power, concentration, and complexity. On the palate, the entry is full-bodied, rich, dark, and completely balanced, suggesting longevity in addition to its early appeal.
Harvested by hand on September 30, 2013, the fruit for this vintage of Oro was grown in the steep rocky east-facing soils of Veterans Peak, just south of Yountville, Napa Valley. While each block of the vineyard is vinified with care, this block in particular was singled-out early on as potentially the best of the best of an outstanding vintage. This block received a few more days on skins before pressing, received the finest-grained French oak barrels, and just a touch more attention throughout the vinification process. At the end of twenty months in barrels, we tasted through the individual barrels in this lot and selected our best two barrels of this amazing Cabernet. These were gently bottled by hand, without fining or filtration, in late June 2015. A total of 45 cases were produced.
